Why I Support Evan McMullin

This is not my article summary, but I just wanted to get this out there and encourage the rest of you, if you haven't already, to look into the candidates and see who YOU agree with!

After the Town Hall last night, if I could vote, my vote would 100% go to Evan McMullin. Here's why:

Before I get to reasons YOU can get behind, I wanted to say that the difference between the feeling I get when I listen to Evan vs Trump and Hillary is HUGE. When Trump and Hillary talk, it doesn't matter if it's with each other at a debate or just their own speech at their own event, all I can feel is anger, hatred, and tension. Listening to McMullin was very refreshing. I hadn't even realized that the feelings I get listening to Trump and Hillary aren't necessarily the way you should feel listening to the potential next president of the USA. The way Evan spoke brought peace and unity to the room. We need a president like that. He also offered many solutions that he, as president, COULD enforce. The presidential candidates are always saying they would solve things that, in reality, only things like Congress should have the power to change. In addition to that, his answers felt honest and he didn't beat around the bush like the other presidential candidates we know.

Next I would like to explain why he jumped into the race so late (August 8.) Evan was following a non-profit campaign that was trying to pull in an Independent candidate. He asked many of his friends in Congress, etc, if they would be willing to run. They all said no. Time passed and Evan, thinking it was getting late to put a candidate in, checked with the campaign to see if they had anybody. They did not. He kept checking back with them, and eventually they asked if he would be willing to run. He did not expect this, but he went home and carefully pondered and prayed about it. Of course he did not have much time, but he felt like it was the right thing to do. Now he is polling at 22% in Utah, a statistical tie with Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump.

Now to reasons that could affect YOUR opinion:
—In general, Evan believes that power needs to be given back to Legislature and the states. He said he would be the weakest president because he would like to give up so many powers the president un-rightfully owns.
—Evan is a former CIA agent who voluntarily served in the Middle East after 9/11. He was able to witness their problems first hand. He said that within the first 100 days of being in office, one of the first things he would do would be to get a committee together, make a plan to defeat ISIS, and execute that plan. He would also defeat al-Qaeda, punish Iran for violating the nuclear deal, and stand, "unapologetically," as Ted Cruz would say, with Israel.
—Evan believes it is right for the US to be involved in the world. As far as other foreign affairs go, Evan would inflict tighter sanctions on Russia and put more military personnel in the Baltic States in order to "deter and reverse Putin's aggression, rather than pretending that he is a partner for peace in Syria." In addition, he would not let China get away with taking over the Western area of the Pacific ocean.
—He understands that there is some racism in America, just like most of our candidates. However, he has thought through and offers some solutions. In order to prevent racial discrimination by police officers (who he believes, for the most part, are great people with good intentions,) he would make policing be more locally controlled. He would urge the police forces to become close with their communities in order to stop them from treating people differently based on things like their race. He still believes it is the right of the people to say what they want, but making violent and discriminatory choices based on that is not a right we have.
—He also understands that taking back the right of gay marriage is not realistic or constitutional, but he supports the right for private businesses to not do business for somebody based on religious reasons (i.e. taking pictures for a gay wedding.)
—He believes we need to give the military more. But not by raising taxes or increasing national debt. He knows there are many things the government does not need to spend as much on. The military deserves better resources.
—He believes all Americans deserve affordable, quality healthcare. Notice the word "affordable." Notice it does not say "free." Yep. Guess what Evan would repeal if he became president? That's right, Obamacare, something that highly contributes to our national debt.
—As far as education goes, Evan and I match up perfectly. He believes that in order for kids to have a quality education, we should leave it, for the most part, to the communities. Education is not a topic that should belong to Washington. He is a big supporter of Charter schools and Home-school. He believes that Home-schooled students deserve and need the right to participate in public school activities. He believes teachers deserve a higher salary, but again, not by taxing us more or putting us into more debt but by changing government spending.
—He is pro-life. Enough said.


Many people think, "Wow, Evan's great, but does he have a chance of winning?" The answer is YES. It is possible, although not likely. I'm sure many of you know about this, but if any candidate fails to get 270 electoral votes, the election goes to the House where they get to decide who becomes the next president of the United States. I also want to put it out there that on November 5th, there is a "Nationwide Fast" for the election. That is a Saturday is you want to participate. The best thing we can do as minors who cannot vote is to let your voice be heard about who you support and pray. I can't say this enough, but if everybody votes based on who they think SHOULD win instead of based on who they think should NOT win, God will bless our country, whether it be with good leaders or in some other way.

If you want Evan to be the next Commander-in-Chief, spread the word! Get on social media and tell your friends! This isn't even half of the reasons I love Evan McMullin—He is a strong defender of the 2nd amendment, he has a plan to help immigrants become citizens, he's a huge fan of the constitution, he has ideas on how to get out of debt, the list could go on and on—but I didn't want to write something so long no one would read it. It's really incredible all of the ideas and solutions Evan brings to the table for only having been in the race for 2 months. If you have any questions about Evan, feel free to ask them in a comment!
