The Philippines Announces Its Separation From the United States

Ever since the Philippines was declared its own country instead of an American colony, the Philippines has considered the US its strongest ally. That is, until today, when Filipino president Rodrigo Duterte declared that the US had "lost" and announced their "separation from the United States both in military and economics also." The US has not discussed this with the Philippines yet, but the conclusion that has been drawn is that, basically, the Philippines is leaving their alliance with the US for China. The United States and Philippines have been doing military drills together for years, they have a mutual defense treaty, and the US has a history of helping the Philippines "reduce poverty and increase prosperity." If you ask me (as well as many others), it definitely looks like this is the Philippines' loss much more than ours, although the US will lose a very strong and important ally through this. After doing some research on the Philipine-US relations, it seems very much like President Duterte is speaking for himself, as polls show that Filipino people (in general) love the US and Duterte has said some things about America that strongly contradict the thoughts of the people.
