Thailand's king, Bhumibol Adulyadej, has sadly passed away after living 88 years, the last few in bad health. He was the world's longest reigning Monarch after 70 years as the leader of Thailand. People are devastated at a personal level, feeling like they could have done more for him. Their flags are at half mast and their entertainment is to keep it low for the next month in honor of his death. His successor will be his son, the Crown Prince Vajiralongkorn, who is 64.

I did not even know anything about the Thai government before reading this. It's interesting to see a Constitutional Monarch that is still helping rule his country. It's also interesting to note that the Crown Prince has an older sister, so Thailand must prefer to pass the crown to a male heir if possible. I hope the new king will be as beloved by the people as his father.
