There are some peacekeepers from the UN in South Sudan where they've had civil war since 2013. Their job is to protect civilians. but when fighting erupted in the capital some of the peacekeepers ran away so civilians ran towards the UN offices in fright. The peacekeepers, scared of getting mauled, threw out tear bombs. So now some people thing they are doing a bad job

      I don't know. From that article it sounds like they are and I think they could defidently do a better job but I can see why they might not have any motivation to risk there lives for something they wouldn't be involved with anyway. But on the other hand there are a lot of other lives at hand too and they were trusted with the job.

    Sometimes I just cannot fathom what makes people behave the way they do. Between the horrific acts of those committing atrocities and the inability or unwillingness of UN Peacekeepers (who are soldiers by a different name) to actually do what they're supposed to in order to protect civilians, it's hard to wrap my brain around situations like this.
