Inebriated Namibian Pedestrians Treated Like Drunk Drivers
In Namibia, citizens are warned that if they are walking intoxicated and hit by a car, they are tried with the same severity as if they were driving drunk.
This is interesting. I have a friend who ran into a woman because the woman was drunk and ran out into the highway. While the accident was not my friend's fault, she was certainly traumatized by the knowledge that she was driving a car in an incident where someone died. The police assured her that it was not her fault, but still...Maybe it's a good idea to discourage walking while drunk. On the other hand, at least if someone is walking, they're not driving a vehicle that will kill someone else. If the penalty is the same either way, it could lead to more drunk drivers as people choose to drive instead of walk after drinking.
