In Burma, which you may know by its alternative name, Myanmar, the military has burned down three Rohingya villages and around 430 buildings in the past three weeks. In the past month, at least 130 Rohingya people have been killed by the Burmese military. Rohingya are Muslims living in the Rakhine State. There are about one million Rohingya and around 100,000 living in camps after they were forced to leave their homes by violent attacks in 2012. Needless to say, they and their government are not on the best terms. Last month, nine Burmese police officers were killed and they are currently blaming it on the Rohingya people. A schoolteacher said, "Since the violence last month, villagers have been accused of burning their own houses. Villagers are hiding in the forest. No one dares to live in their own house because of the arrests and killing."

ReplyDeleteIt's so sad how many groups in the world have to flee their homes. It sounds like many of these people have fled more than one country to try to get to somewhere safe.
