The UN has set out to investigate Myanmar for human rights violation after many attacks on the Rohingya people. The Rohingya are Muslims in the Rakhine state who are denied citizenship and, in turn, viewed as illegal immigrants. Suu Kyi is currently Myanmar's acting leader and she stated that "ethnic cleansing is too strong an expression to use for what's happening" in response to the international media's view on the Burmese military.

So, what I'm seeing here is that she acknowledges that there is a problem but doesn't think the problem is bad enough to be described as ethnic cleansing. Is that a fair assessment? I don't know enough about the specifics of Myanmar to be able to say if what is going on there qualifies as ethnic cleansing. What do you think?
