I was at regions at the start of my first game and one of my teammates said something that really struck home for me. He told us the story of Socrates.

Socrates was approached by a young man who wanted Socrates to teach him how to be a great scholar. Socrates told this young man to meet him at the beach early the next day. The young man complied and did as was asked.

When he got there, Socrates was standing in the water up to his waist. Socrates invited the young man into the water. when the young man got out where Socrates was, Socrates suddenly pushed the young man's head under the water. when the young man got his head up for air Socrates asked him how badly he wanted air.

The young man responded that he wanted air more than anything in the whole world. Socrates told him that when he had a desire to learn as much as he wanted air, then he could come back to learn.

We need to have a desire to learn the gospel as much as that young man wanted air. We need to want the gospel more than anything in the whole wide world.
